If you’ve ever worked with macros, you know how useful it is to enter a keyboard combination and have a commonly used function performed as a result. MacroNote, a simple and powerful software application, was designed by a public insurance adjuster who realized that there had to be a better way of entering commonly used information and line item notes into estimating software. MacroNote is a Text Macro Management System (TMMS) that allows you to assign keyboard shortcuts to your notes. When you need to enter a specific line or paragraph of text, simply click the keyboard shortcut and MacroNote automatically fills in the text! With MacroNote, you can:
- Create multiple “Master Text Macros” and sub-macros. The Master Text Macro would have its own set of sub-macros, or “notes.” Once you enter the text into the sub-macro, you then create a keyboard shortcut such as “Control + Shift + L.”
- You can create as many Master Text Macros and sub-macros as you need. For example, you may want to create a Master Text Macro containing all of your business information such as your license number and contact information, and another Master Text Macro for your claims estimating software.
- Manage your macros by using the Macro tree view to hide macros you do not need at any given time.
- Easily import and export your Master Text Macros. This is useful on several levels. First, if you have a business colleague that also uses MacroNotes, you may want to share macros with each other. Second, if you use several computers, you will want to have access to your macros on each computer. The import/export function makes it easy to import and export your text macros without having to retype the information. An option is available to select which macros to export as well as to export Master Text Macros without the notes’ contents which is useful if you want to keep confidential information from being exported.
- Print out a master list of all Master Text Macros, sub-macros, and keyboard shortcuts. This printout then serves as a desktop reference that you can use as a “cheat sheet.” After all, it may take you a little time to memorize all of your shortcuts. Keep the printout handy and refer to it as needed to quickly find the right shortcut.
